Impregnable

Stirling Castle sits on Castle Hill, an extinct volcano. There are steep cliffs on three sides of the building. No wonder it was a strategic defensive site. There might be a few 12th century bits of the castle remaining, a few from the 14th but most of it dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. You can see it for miles around and it must have looked a forbidding place for foot soldiers trying to besiege and capture it. It was home to many Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary, Queen of Scots was crowned here in 1542.

Because we live within the old burgh boundary we get free entry to the castle. It's worth a visit if you're ever here and it isn't all battles, blood and gore.

Anyway I didn't visit the castle today. The blip was taken when I was in the Kings Park letting Flora run free. She had tremendous fun. I have added an extra which, though slightly out of focus, shows her in action.

I didn't get to sleep till 03:00 this morning so I'm having an afternoon of reading with the possibility of a snooze thrown in. Though there is always the call of the garden.
