Fotheringay Church

Woke this morning to howling gales (as expected) so we delayed breakfast / departure as long as possible. When we checked out we were told that the route north out the village was blocked by a fallen tree, so we made a big detour south back to Peterborough services and drove back to Doncaster from there. However, this route took us through Fotheringay where there is this beautiful church with an unusual octagonal tower.

Drove steadily 55/60 mph most of the way, having to avoid a couple of trees that had blown over and blocked a lane of the A1. There was also an incredible squall near Retford and the wipers could not cope, so traffic pretty much came to a standstill. The road was more like a river!

Made it safely back to Doncaster. We are staying here tonight. I had planned to stay anyway as I am on grandad duty on Monday, and Mrs madwill doesn’t fancy driving back this afternoon.
