The Edge of the Wold

Wind and tide

Storm Ciara may have gone through, but goodness it is still extremely windy. To take this photo of the last gasp of the sun, I had to shelter behind Arnside's place of convenience to avoid being blown over.  This was more than three hours after high tide, and there is still a lot of water in the estuary.

Following on from yesterday's blip of the flooding tide, our departure to Wifie's Tuesday class coincided with the predicted peak of today's high tide. I had already seen the bore powering up channel when I came home from meeting a friend at Levens, and it was obviously going to be a seriously high tide.  I said yesterday that there was no-one mad enough to give it a go, well today, there were several who were and who came to grief.  As we returned on the road from Milnthorpe there was a conked out BMW at Dallam, and then the AA were recovering a small car outside the Ship, and finally the contents of a van were above the strand line in Storth with the disconsolate driver whose vehicle had presumably been towed away.

There's another big tide tomorrow coinciding with our return from Wifie's workshop, so we shall be taking the long way round again.
