a lifetime burning

Tiny Tuesday: Coming Up

Spring is most definitely on its way.  There are daffodils and crocuses in bloom now, and most of the snowdrops are over.  I guess the very mild winter has helped, notwithstanding the succession of winter storms.  I particularly like this striped crocus, but so do the birds, so its great to get a picture of it before they ruin it!

In this part of the world the storms have brought very strong winds and rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  But as yet there has been no prolonged cold weather. The outlook for the next month seems to be for more of the same windy and wet weather, they are not forecasting any sort of cold snap.  Definitely some further evidence of climate change, if any were needed.

Back when T.S Eliot wrote The Wasteland he felt that April was the cruelest month in England.  For Eliot the life and colour of Spring forced painful memories back to the surface, things that he had managed to forget over the Winter.  From the evidence in our garden, where the lilacs are starting to show signs of growth, I think that were he writing today, he would have to bring forward his cruelest month forward to March at the very least, and possibly even February this year.
