Collecting the single line token

The first turn in the Kent and East Sussex Railway started cold and bright going downhill in the afternoon with squally rain and buffeting winds.

Warm enough in the signalbox, unpleasant outside when collecting or delivering the token or working the gates.

A friend of ours who was interested in volunteering in the Carriage and Wagon department came down for the morning. He spent a very enjoyable time in the box as well as talking to people in Carriage and Wagon. I think they’ve got a new volunteer now and Bob is a fine craftsman too. He took today’s blip of me collecting the token from the fireman as the train arrived back at Tenterden.

Today’s turn was unexpected owing to late sickness, which means a tight turnaround this evening as went to see Fairport Convention this evening at the Gulbenkian theatre in Canterbury. They were good but not as uplifting as in the past. The support act Smith and Brewer we’re very good. https://smithandbrewer.com
