Inverquhomery

Another day, another bus, another house, another bed. Off to Ashburton to stay with the Sims. They stayed with me a couple of years ago, the link is genealogy.

The weather was better in Ashburton than Timaru and we had lunch in the beautiful garden. Then a drive round farms and roads in Canterbury. I ended up meeting another D.G.Sim (the original is 65 tomorrow). This one is David Gordon and is a distant cousin of my kids. Inverquhomery is the farm in Buchan near Longside where the Sims lived before they came to NZ in the 1880s. A and DG's grandfather built the Canterbury Inverquhomery and lived there. The house is empty now but the family still farm there and live next door. The house where the widowed Mrs Sim stayed when she arrived in NZ is still exists but behind a high hedge. The family also farmed at Lenabo (extra).

Once back at the modern house there was time to sit in the garden and sew. N is also a great needleworker so we stitched in tandem.

Tomorrow I am going to the Sim farm to sit on a combine, I am told!
