Life through the lens...

Pop Galo.

A very enjoyable visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The highlight today was this wonderful colourful 9m high sculpture.
Created by celebrated Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.
Covered by 17,000 Portuguese glazed tiles or azulejos arranged in a variety of patterns and illuminated by 15,000 LED lights.
The artist has taken the idea from Portuguese culture. The rooster of Barcelos.
Pop Galo has already been exhibited in Lisbon, Beijing, Bilbao, and Barcelos.

At the YSP it will be the first time against a backdrop of 18th century parkland.
The exhibition doesn’t open until 7th March, but this exhibit was put in place a couple of weeks ago, and today they were adjusting it’s position as they noticed it was tilting because of the strong winds.

We finished our walk with lunch in the new Weston Restaurant. If you spend over £30 you get free all day parking. As that is now £12 it seemed like a good deal. ( However the deal finishes at the end of March, and only applies Mon. - Fri.)
I had a delicious smoked haddock and mussel ith a glass of rosé. Mr C had Slow cooked local pork belly and ginger beer.

A fabulous day, making the most of the good weather.

Extras of the tiles on the cockerel, the new restaurant and the herons nesting.
