Which way is the wind blowing?

This weathervane sits atop the newly restored Cowane's Hospital, also known as the Guildhall. It's an amazing building up by the castle. See it here https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2322770054707415068

John Cowane was Stirling's most generous benefactor. A successful merchant, he died in 1633. He left money to numerous causes the largest of which was the 40,000 merks for the building of ‘ane hospital or almshous’ within the burgh of Stirling to provide for ‘twelve decayed (elderly) guild brethren’ allowing them to live rent free in their old age.

The Guildhall is no longer an almshouse but the Cowane's Trust still has a lot of interests, including land ownership, in Stirling. When we bought our house it was noted in the missives that the Cowane's Trust is the 'Feudal Superior'. But we have never paid a feu - I think that was ended before we moved in.

I walked up and around the empty streets near the castle. It was easy to keep the required distance from anyone else. I'm glad I'm able to do this and to get both exercise and fresh air. Long may that continue. I'm also in contact with lots of friends via email, WhatsApp, Signal, Zoom, messenger and phone. And Blip! It's great of course but it's not the same. Tomorrow we're going to try a family Zoom video call.

Hope everyone is OK.
