View from the Hydro

Another ordinary day with a bit of everything – no, I forgot, it hasn’t rained!

After lunch we walked up to the Hydro, which for those not in the know is the ruin of the Hydropathic Hotel, built in Victorian Times and almost completed, but never used. The ruins stand in a large area of high ground in the middle of the town, covered in trees and Rhododendron ponticum, and loved by walkers and secret drinkers alike.

The path leading into it looks down on the town, the harbour, the island of Kerrera and the mountains of Mull. My Blip today shows the two monkey puzzle trees growing in a garden in Ardconnel Terrace, probably the biggest of the species in the town as the champion, in a garden in Breadalbane Street, was cut down last year for reasons unknown, the usual reason for the regular tree felling in the town.

I thought that there might have been a lot of walkers out there today as there’s plenty of space to keep out of each other’s pockets, but we met only one man puffing his way up the hill.

Quote of the Day:
