Negative-Positive

Dear Diary,

I have had this old negative for, well, forever.  I found it in the old family bible, 1827, I inherited in 2002 and there it has stayed all these years.  I decided to see if I could print it digitally...to see who the children were in the photograph.  Since I don't have a scanner, I had to photograph the negative by holding it in front of a window.  Then I figured out how to invert the image in Photoshop.  I now believe the baby is my uncle, my mother's brother, taken in 1918 and the two little girls are my grandmother's nieces, her brother's children.  I have pictures of them later and it looks like them.   Anyway, it got me thinking of something I read about the camera and what it can teach you.  I've added it as an extra. I've also added a photo of Nurse Marigold in her PPE!

DAY SIXTEEN:
“The human eye always sees twice in the one look: the thing and the emptiness. The conviction that each individual is separate and utterly alone makes us blind to that subtle world that dwells between things.” - John O’Donohue  . Just for today, bring awareness to the space between things. When you do that, how does it change the way you see the world? How does it make you feel? What do you notice?  ”When we pay attention to the spaces between the things of the world, whole new perceptions come into our awareness. Looking into the branches and trunks, between the things of the world, is a fundamental practice for opening our attentional focus, for stretching ourselves beyond our predominant view, our habits, our fearful projections. Opening like this, we experience a kind of spaciousness. We see a new coherence, a new wholeness.” ~ Laura Sewall

This is what I saw out of the corner of my eye yesterday.
