Bighead

Before breakfast I heard a greenfinch wheezing but couldn't locate it. After we had eaten our food, and as Ollie dog and I were searching for insects in the sheep's parsley, I happened to look up and saw a pair greenfinches in the ash tree immediately above us.. He hopped onto a nearby branch leaving her to groom herself coquettishly. I've chosen this image as it nicely shows her powerful bill, so typical of the finch family. An old country name for them is bighead.

We have just come back from our late walk (9:00 pm). We saw Brock the badger trotting through the sheep's parsley in Butterfly Alley. His black and white face shows up so well at dusk. I guessed he was around as the birds were alarm calling.
