Flower Friday : : Freida Kahlo Roses

Our 'in person' post zoom Pilates class gathering at Cafe Freida this morning was a good reminder of the fact that we were not meant to be hermits. John and I have been doing quite well in our period of hibernation, but social contact is certainly restorative. I could  also title today's picture 'Social Distancing' for it clearly is.

Our Pilates teacher, Sonya, who has been quite ill (not Covid) has returned to teaching her zoom classes, and she and her husband joined us for coffee. It was good to be able to see and talk to her in person. The hardest thing about seeing our friends again is staying six feet away from them when every instinct wants to give them a big hug! Sonya and her partner, Sherisse,  are unable to reopen the studio yet, but when they can, they will be continuing the mat classes via zoom because the wider spacing between reformers will not allow for open floor space in the studio.It's a little odd to step into the next room for class and then drive clear across town for coffee with the same people, but there are advantages....

The governor has been meeting with small business people all over the state as well as with public health officers to try to formulate policies for reopening the economy. I don't really know how the final decisions are made, but restaurants and stores with distancing precautions in place will be opening next week. 

Although the protests are so important, It seems like bad timing to open so many things up at the same time as people are taking to the streets. Having marched in many a demonstration in my life, I don't think mass protest and 'social' distancing can possibly go together. We'll have to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens to the numbers.In Sonoma County it has been determined that the numbers are going up mainly in certain clusters, and that the Hispanic community is being hit particularly hard both by the illness and by loss of livelihood. 

I have perfected my masking technique with the addition of pipe cleaners to help it stay  put over the nose and keep glasses from fogging up. It definitely helps, but I really hope that masks don't become the latest fashion accessory....
