If I Fell

After a grey start to the day, it faired up nicely this afternoon so we decided to go out. As usual in these times, it was a case of trying to think of somewhere that would not be overrun by all and sundry on a day trip to the Lakes.
Went to Humphrey Head on the edge of Morecambe Bay. Very pleasant walk along the bottom of the cliffs until the stream became too wide to cross and we had to turn back. Stopped in Grange on the way home for an ice cream and a stroll around the duck pond.
Wasn’t at all crowded, as hoped, though we did see a group of young lads attempting a few bouldering problems. Given that they had brought crash mats with them and had decent footwear on, it is to be assumed they wouldn’t suffer the same fate as the young lad commemorated on the memorial stone in the picture.
Once again the current situation has forced us to think laterally and do something different in order to “stay safe”. Would I have gone to this place in “normal” times? Probably not. Having lived up here for nearly 30 years, it’s a shame there has to be a global pandemic before I get round to visiting these lovely places that are practically on my doorstep!

Just in case the photo is not clear, the wording on the stone is:-
“Beware how you these rocks ascend
Here William Pedder met his end
August 22nd 1857 Aged 10 Years”

No idea who William Pedder was or why he merited such a memorial.
