Morello cherries

A gloomy day,  brightened up by picking the first of the ripe morello cherries from the fan-trained tree on a sunny wall in the garden.   This tree, planted in our first winter in the house (2015), has flourished. Its fan-trained neighbour - a sweet cherry called 'Petit Noir' - has been plagued by blackfly and has definitely failed to thrive. So it will be coming out, to allow more space for the morello. It's taken me a while to reconcile myself to getting rid of a tree. But it seems better to make more space for the healthy one, rather than to continue to watch the other one struggle.  As a gardener, I'm often tempted to cram too much into any space; so this time, I'm trying to learn from past mistakes :-)
