Doreen’s 95th birthday

We were planning to go to Hastings for a perambulation along the seafront and possible indulge in fish and chips to celebrate Doreen’s birthday.

The weather gods conspired against us bringing lowering skies and a brisk wind with scats of rain every now and then which were not conducive to a day at the seaside. It was more like autumn than full summer. Brrr... however, I think we escaped lightly compared with other parts of the country.

Instead Doreen came to us this afternoon to open her presents, have a celebratory gin and tonic and a chicken balti followed by a scone, clotted cream and jam and fresh strawberries.

All being well, we’ll make that trip to Hastings tomorrow when the forecast is much more clement.
