The 600 Meter Swim Relay...

...took place today along the sunny shores of Lake Michigan, & what an exciting race it was! Five teams started in the relay and were evenly spaced on the first lap. Due to the warm weather, lots of fans sat out on the float, where they could get both a breeze & a birds eye view of all the action as the geese swam past! (top lt.)
On the second lap, the Lake Ganders' swimmer had moved up to the middle position (you may recall the pre-AOG interview I did with the Lake Ganders' coach on July 19th.) (top rt.)  As soon as the swimmers passed the halfway mark, the anchor lap geese lined up, ready to go as soon as their second lap swimmers reached them.(bottom lt.)  You may notice there are only 4 swimmers lined up for the final lap. Unfortunately the swimmer from the fifth team was exhausted, so instead of finishing, he climbed aboard the float and sat down, thereby eliminating his team from the race! Undeterred, the remaining 4 anchor geese dove into the water, and by the half way point, the Lake Ganders' best kept secret weapon, Speedy Honkers, put on the after burners and torched the rest of the competitors, (bottom rt.) earning his team the gold medal! This race had it all: tough competitors--well, except for one tired swimmer who single featherdly cooked his teams' goose--drama, and a spectacular finish! It gave the spectators lots of thrills, and when they heard the exuberant honking from the winning team, it gave them chills, too! :))
