Life in Sunny Dubai

Lost coins

It's been an "at home" day so a bit of an emergency blip here, taken almost at the end of the day. It is a compass box that I'd long forgotten about. It's got lots of coins in it, a number of them not in circulation anymore. I like the different colours, shapes and sizes. :)) I don't know why they keep wanting to go completely cashless; we'd lose so much character!

G's email went out on time. It's always a relief when that happens. We got to T@3 which was great, as always. We could hear some of the storms come into the area by way of thunder.

There are two significant things to record today. Firstly, I read in the "paper" in the morning that the UAE has done away with Residents having to apply for permits to re-enter the country. It's a great move but I'm so annoyed because it was one of the main reasons we didn't travel out of the country this summer.

When the lockdown was lifted, there were hundreds of thousands of people who had been stranded abroad and the government were giving them priority to return. Anyone who left the country for a summer holiday risked not being able to enter on the date they wanted because their application would go to the back of the queue. Argh.

Sweetheart alerted me to the really big news of the day. The UAE and Israel have signed an agreement to normalise relations. This is huge. Something we never thought would ever happen! It is only the third Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel. The other two are Egypt and Jordan. The only reason I mention this is because it is so unprecedented. Living here all my life, you had to be careful to even mention the name Israel, and now we might have the chance to fly there direct from Dubai. Amazing.

And G managed to catch the film Lawrence of Arabia on TCM. What an epic movie that is. Topical too for us.
