Mushrooms

I've had a few pesky mushrooms come up in the lawn, so will remove them as they appear. This morning I finished putting in the log roll edging separating off the wild garden I'm creating and then this afternoon I went to get rid of another boot full of stone and rubble for free at Carl Bird.

Day 173 / Full Day 165 of Lockdown / Day 63 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 10 to 41,537 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 1,940 (not looking good) and 743 patients in hospital. New cases in Spain today were 10,476 and France 8,975. Leeds, Middlesborough, Corby, Kettering and South Tyneside are added to the Govt watchlist. Norfolk worryingly has been identified as an 'area of enhanced support', presumably after the outbreak at Banham Poultry. The ONS says case numbers remained stable up to 25th Aug, with 2,000 new cases a day and an estimated 27,100 people with the virus in the community (presumably this changes next week given the 'official' positive test numbers). A shocking 490 care home residents died on one day alone in April (17th).

The Eat Out to Help Out scheme has so far resulted in over 100m meals being claimed at £522m. I thought it was interesting that the average discount per meal in North Norfolk was £4.98, which hopefully restaurants will take on board as a marketing initiative to encourage early week diners. Virgin Atlantic is cutting a further 1,150 jobs which now means its workforce has halved from pre-pandemic levels, and it has secured a £1.2bn private sector rescue deal. The Co-op is creating 1,000 new jobs and opening or extending 65 stores.
