A day by the sea

The morning did not look too promising - all damp and grey. My early morning stroll was much less inspiring than yesterday. We hadn't made a plan for the day but decided to see if we could get tickets to see Alnwick Castle Gardens. I had seen a picture of the water cascade there and had wanted to see it but expected it would be very busy. I needn't have worried we managed to get tickets and, although there were a good number of people there, the gardens were well set out and there were good views of the water features with most people observing the one way system. The gardens were beautiful and I enjoyed a cream tea afterwards. Whilst I was waiting for it to arrive I spotted this hoverfly on a nearby rose and a very curious blackbird. Unfortunately my picutures of the water falls didn't really do them justice,
Afterwards we headed for the coast at Alnmouth. We had visited there many years ago when our son was only a year or so old so it was lovely to return and I could remember flying a kite on the beach as if it were yesterday. We climbed Church Hill and took some picutres of the town from St Cuthbert's cross. Later we walked along the beach and found these groynes and as the tide was coming in we spent a while watching the sea splash over them. The other extra is a boat we had seen going out to sea earlier in the day and it was nice to watch it slowly make its way back up the estuary with St Cuthbert's cross on Church Hill in the background.
Despite the poor start we had a lovely day.
