Thank You For the Days ..

Brilliant Berwick

Off to the coast today! The pretext was the fortnightly supermarket sweep, but it wasn't strictly necessary to travel 30 miles to Berwick to do that. We were avoiding the C19 hotspot in the nearest town ... and the fact that a sunny day at the seaside was forecast had nothing to do with the decision .... well, yes, it did.

LS Lowry used to spend his holidays here, and he liked to paint these quaint old alleys. I've tried to get a picture so many times, without success. But today, the light was right. And this is just opposite our favourite lunch spot.

We had hours to wander before our pick-up time, so we walked across the old bridge, watching the salmon-netters at their work. I know it's an ancient custom and privilege, but I can't help feeling sorry for the fish who end their long journey trapped so near their destination. They don't actually seem to catch many, just one today that we saw.

Then we went down to the beach and watched the birds for a bit and enjoyed the views. Then it was time to do the shopping and make for home. The ice-cream was a bit melted by the time we got back, but that's a small inconvenience after such a gorgeous day out.

I took 95 pictures apparently. There are a few wee extras ...
