Rarely still; Day 39

Friday saw no new cases of Covid for the first time since 10 August. That was after four days of none in the community, but some in those in quarantine. Today saw two new cases and one was a community case. The source of the infection for that person is as yet unknown. Contact tracing has been active, and it is to be hoped that there is a link to known sources. It seems more likely than not that there will still be no easing of restrictions for Auckland.

We had intended to have our first trip to the beach house in about six months. However, the reason for the traffic chaos of yesterday dissuaded us. Yesterday afternoon a couple of trucks crossing the harbour bridge were hit by a sudden wind gust estimated at over 125 km/hour. One was blown onto its side and the other crashed into  (and broke) part of the bridge structure. (Neither driver was physically hurt) This will close the four centre lanes of the bridge for at least the next few days, and traffic snarls will be common.

Instead, we went with daughter J to view a couple of homes for sale, as it is time we moved from the apartment. In the front garden of one of them I saw a piwakawaka (fantail), and managed an almost crisp photograph. They are birds that are seldom still for even a second. It did pause briefly on Nø 8 fencing wire.
