Gently down the stream

New phase

Yes, I went down to Lymington early today - and sadly it looks like being the last visit for quite a long while.  Even if I could kid myself the noises coming from government weren't going to lead to much of a shutdown, I could hardly ignore the news that my latest supermarket delivery had quite a few items missing because - you've guessed it - people are beginning to stockpile again  ;((

So even though I've had such fun going there, the Lymington project is dead, at least for now and I shall have to move on to a new phase.  Today I just poddled down the tideline looking at birds.  This, the nearest I can guess, is a turnstone, though markings on the head don't look right.  Could that be immature plumage?  If you know, please tell me.  It was certainly ploughing through the seaweed, using beak and top of head, and being rather successful at finding brunch.

(Edit: Diane2014 has just told me it's a turnstone in summer plumage, so that's that solved - many thanks, Diane)

In extras I've put 2 more egrets: the first was - very oddly - standing in water on the Town Quay slipway, surrounded by quantities of folks enjoying the sunshine.  I have never seen an egret come that close to people, so I had to include the image, if just as a diary shot.  The other egret was not fishing in the sea at all, but in the almost emply pond in the Recreation Ground.  And then there's Wistful (the white cygnet) and a brown sibling.

So that's the weekend.  Have a good beginning to the week, dear blipfriends  xx
