Shell-shocked

When we went to bed last night I noticed a slight smell of burning. Checked and found nothing untoward at home. Opened the windows no smell either, so thought I had imagined it.

This morning had a call at 07:45, from Ocado delivery man, saying he couldn’t get to the main door as all the streets were closed off. Had to go down in my dressing gown to let him in via the garden gate. Good for him persevering, another most likely would’ve given up.

Checked the local rag, the Bournemouth Echo. Headline news, huge fire at local derelict hotel. 100+ firefighters. That’s the second big blaze in the area in recent months. Feel sorry for residents in nearby hotels who were evacuated in the early hours and had to be accommodated in other hotels.

Now 15:00. Will wander round, if the road’s open, and see what’s left of the building. Scandalous really as this is the 3rd fire there. Other hotels had complained, as despite being boarded up, it has attracted undesirables (addicts etc.). To be honest I wouldn’t have called it derelict at all - just neglected.

Heavy rain, sun, wind - we’ve seen it all today.

The blip is another of the the shells we collected a couple of days ago. For Ingeborg’s Abstract Thursday challenge: 'light and shadow'.
