With the keys being handed over tomorrow, ten years and three days since the first tenant moved in and three months shy of twenty years since we couldn't believe our luck in finding somewhere cheap enough and moving quickly enough to buy it, I must seek other canvases. I haven't found any photos of the flat we rented for eight months prior to moving in here, but it was whilst living in this one that phones developed cameras, computers developed webcams and in which I lived when I got back into photography, and somewhere nearby where Parcelforce mis-delivered the s9500 I sought to upgrade to from the s5000, making me have to wait three more weeks for it. At some point, we watched the wholes of Lost and Six Feet Under up there. From here, we went on several holidays elsewhere in Europe, got married and went to NZ on our honeymoon, went for simple weekend morning walks round the hill, down to look at the Cowgate after the fire, to the cinema when the Odeon still existed on Clerk St and the Cameo across the Meadows. The last ten years seem to have gone by really quickly, but there's been enough going on in the current house to have dwelt overmuch on the old one; ever since we got the keys on our second wedding anniversary all of our stuff has been in Leith. Barely two weeks after moving everything across there were other people too. As well as a few last photos I also recorded the sounds of the clunks of the doors and locks, had a last sniff of the stair and tramped back in time to collect the children from school.
