Kale Duo

I've had kale growing in the garden all winter through everything that the climate can throw at it. I use it in soup, stir fries and vegetable stews, picked fresh when I need it. It's the only winter green vegetable that's as hardy and as nutritious. If you steam it and then add to a vegetable dish kale has some cholesterol-lowering benefits. It also lowers the risk of at least five different types of cancers and it's good for detoxing the system. Also 45 different flavonoids (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances) have been detected in kale. So if you have a square yard to spare try buying the little plants from a nursery in April or May and make a nice fertile patch for them. The only bit I throw away is the thick stem.
The green image was taken today and I thought it would be interesting to put it alongside yesterday's image of the kale adorned with a blanket of snow. Thanks to Woodpeckers for directed me to the App - Photogene for iPhone - to put the 2 pictures in one frame.
What a difference a day makes as the year advances. In the background is the plot where our little cat is buried and the 'cat' plaque was placed there in her memory. In a month's time the daffodils should be dancing up there!
