Approaching Salt Lake City

Backblipping our trip out West Sep 14 - Sep 28

Monday Sep 14
We had an early evening flight out to Salt Lake City. We had a smooth drive down to the airport. It was such a weird feeling at the airport- it was almost deserted. We had time to get ourselves something to eat, then it was almost time to board. The plane was similarly largely empty. Delta are committed to keeping the centre seat empty, but this was far emptier than that - I made a rough count of 20-25 passengers! The flight to SLC is just over 3 hours in length, and they are two hours behind Ohio, so as you can see from my blip we arrived after sunset, though there was still a pink glow in the sky. Jen had been working, but came to pick us up when she got off work. We were staying the night at a hotel rather than with Jen and Jason, as Jason was still observing quarantine after Jen had contracted COVID - fortunately just a mild case. She doesn’t know where she got it from, since while she is a nurse, she doesn’t have contact with people on the Covid floor, and obviously being a nurse she is careful when not at work. Fortunately, even though they live in a small house, with only one bathroom, making it difficult to self isolate, Jason is still fit and healthy. Tomorrow, Jen, Roger and I are leaving for five nights near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, so by the time we return he will be clear too. We hadn’t seen Jen since last Thanksgiving, so it was so good to see her again! We usually meet up in the summer in England and Europe, but of course that didn’t happen this year!
