A Surviver!

After yesterday’s bitter cold and the overnight frost I was afraid the mantis nymphs would be dead, but I found one alive. It was resting on its tummy, peering over the edge of an apple mint leaf.

A lot more snow fell on the mountains during the night. This morning they were looking as good as any time in winter. Better in fact, as the sun is high now, whereas in winter the low sun casts the mountains in silhouette. The warm sunshine had burned much of the snow off by late afternoon.
