Quod oculus meus videt

Autumn Leaf Fall

We intended to have a walk in Hopwas Wood this morning, but as we approached the entrance we saw the gates locked and a red flag displayed.  The area is marked as a rifle range and the distant noise of gunfire confirmed that the army at Whittington Barracks were practising their shooting skills.

It meant a more linear walk, along the canal and back.  We don’t like routes where you have to turn around and retrace our steps so when we saw a path that went along the River Tame we diverted for a change of scenery.  We then had lunch at the local canal side pub before a bit of retail therapy in Tamworth.  We got into a conversation with our waitress to find that until this year she was part of the cabin staff working for Virgin Atlantic.  She was just glad to get another job.

It was so warm today and it was quite uncomfortable in the shops having to wear our face masks.  At least there was good compliance around although we had to look twice when a man walked in with a broad smile and beard.  It was only as we got closer that we saw that he had his lower face printed on a face mask!
