A dreadful afternoon weather wise but we’ve had a great afternoon on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

It always seems to rain when we do these things and therefore the windows steam up but no matter we are very familiar with the Worth Valley line. I subscribed to newsletters to find out about the railway’s Christmas programme. It’s unlikely the family will be coming now to go on the train (they are doing and Elf train instead of a Santa Special) so they are going to stay with their nearby Avon Valley Railway for this year’s Christmas events, but I also got a newsletter promoting an afternoon tea in the Pullman coaches on two Saturdays in October. We decided to go for it to support them.

Much less full than usual but a few people in vintage dress making the most of the occasion. We had our afternoon savouries and fancies on the way from Oxenhope down to Keighley with Prosecco and tea on the way back. We did the same journey again this time we had cream scones and more tea on the way back. The engine (100 years old built in Derby in 1920) has to change ends at Oxenhope and Keighley and you were able to get out to watch if you wished.

A pretty good way to spend a miserably wet afternoon and only four miles to return at the end of it. The people across the carriage from us had come from Lincoln as had some of the volunteer serving staff no doubt others from even further afield.

This was the first day of our Worth Valley staycation, more tomorrow!

We are rewatching the Railway Children tonight, filmed on this line 50 years ago this year.
