The Dahlias Are Gone

But not forgotten!

The overnight low fell to 29F (-1.6C) although there apparently wasn't enough dampness in the air to cause a frost, the cold temps certainly did in the tender plants, like dahlias and zinnias in particular. And we had such a wind the day before that a lot of leaves fell, although many haven't turned yet. I do wonder what those days of smoke had to do with the trees turning colors this year.

At any rate, here's a sweet frozen dahlia blossom looking quite glorious wreathed in its cold-bitten black leaves. The plant will turn to mush tomorrow, but for now, one last chance of a dahlia blip.

It was cold today, but very sunny with beautiful blue skies. I went on a walk around the neighborhood this afternoon and the sun was warm on my face. Not so many sunny days left I fear....looks like the fall rains will start sometime next week.

Happy Monday! Thanks so much for your lovely comments and stars on yesterday's NOT cold bitten dahlia :-)
