Ending with R ...

MedlaR, the fruit of a large shrub, or small tree, cultivated since Roman times.

There are some more descriptive names: the French call the medlar tree cul de chien (translation: dog’s arse), while Shakespeare referred to the fruits as “open-arse”.

I picked this one up while roaming RHS Wisley a few weeks ago as I thought it would make an interesting photo.  Today's Tiny Tuesday  challenge, set by ApolloFly, gave me the impetus to use it ... though at the size of a tomato it may be stretching the "tiny" a little far!
