Heron - on Redbraes Weir

Another phone photo. There've been a lot of those recently. But here I'm taking advantage of the wide angle rear camera on my relatively new phone to capture something I've not had before, which is more or less all of Redbraes Weir, plus a heron. As I have the prime 28mm lens on the camera, I wasn't going to be able capture that with the camera, but I did put some leaf photographs on twitter. Nice brisk walk up to the Weir (largely in sunshine) and thence to Milk for a coffee, snack and change of scene.

It's been a looonng day, as I got up at 5.45am to sign on to Zoom, for a pre-book-event check-in with colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region (Western Australia, Singapore, Canberra, Sydney and Wellington, to be precise). The event itself is the week after next and takes place at the same time. It's a substitute for doing a book tour of those regions, which - with the exception of New Zealand which I haven't (yet) visited - formed an essential part of the early work on the book. It was quite wistful chatting with colleagues and friends about the different conditions under which they are living. It also gave me some insights into what they will say in their commentaries on the book, which means that I can then prepare my responses! Looking forward to it.

I'm mega stiff from my HIIT exertions of yesterday morning, so the only exercise I've taken today was walking, and a bit of stretching at home, trying to ease the sore muscles on the inside of my thighs, which took some hammer from too many squats yesterday.

I'm heartened that many of the COVID-19 indicators for Scotland are going in the right direction. We're living restricted lives, but at least there isn't a sense that the NHS is about to be overwhelmed. And apparently flu is barely getting a foothold this year. Good. We won't miss it.
