Walk along Loch Morar

The view from the room was stunning this morning when I opened the curtains.  The sun was shining on Loch Sheil and there were a couple of people in rowing boats already.  Breakfast for me was fresh fruit salad (without an apple in sight), warmed mini croissant, toast, home made blueberry jam, then smoked salmon with a poachy on top.  Delicious!

We drove along the Road to the Isles to Morar (one of the top drives in terms of scenery in Scotland) and parked up and walked along the side of one of the deepest lochs in Scotland, Loch Morar.  It is said that you could drop the Eiffel Tower into the deepest part of the loch and still have made km to spare.  This is why it has a fabled monster living in it called Morag!

The path was pretty wet in places and at one stage we had to go off plan as the path was covered with water from the burn that had burst its banks. We found a tree next to the burn and used the lower half of it as a foothold to then leap over the water :-)  The scenery was stunning.  The trees with their autumn colours the ferns all dying back giving this marvellous shade all blending in to make the walk one of beauty.  We came across this ruined cottage where the sheep pens are still used and sadly saw all the sheep hides piled up inside at the door, worthless in this world of bloody covid.  Walking along this path, not another soul in sight you could forget everything going on and living in a world far removed from pandemics and rules.  It was glorious .Fresh air, jaw dropping beauty and thankful that I had found this place.

We arrived back at the hotel around three and fab, space at the fire for a read of the book and a cuppa with home made fruit loaf.  Had a chat to a couple from Invergowrie then we walked to the monument and up the viewpoint overlooking the loch.  On one side you had the monument to Bonnie Price Charlie and on the other there was the Glenfinnan Viaduct.  It was sun down and the light was lovely making the area mystical with the mountains, loch and light.

Meal in the evening was seabream - another winner.  Sat in front of the fire again with the cuppa but after walking over 18k steps and in the fresh air most of the day was wiped out and it was an early night...

(text from my daughter at lunchtime to say that Barbara was taken away in the ambulance again)
