Shane the Diver

Just a blob in the river, of course, but actually I had never seen a diver in the river so far upstream. This guy regularly risks his health going into the Water of Leith to look for abandoned bicycles, and according to the Friends of the Water of Leith Basins facebook page, he was there today looking for discarded Just Eat Bikes, as some had been reported in the water at The Quilts. In fact, not a lot was found, partly because the visibility is so terrible there (I guess the river is just full of silt).

However, it turns out that this is an interesting photograph to blip. It is instructive to compare this photograph with one taken more than eight years ago at the same place before the demolition. We regretted the passing of that grimy old warehouse at the top of the hill, but the developers have done a good job of reflecting the industrial heritage in the building designs. Furthermore, there is now a walkway following the path of the river around a loop, which is a good addition to the area. The building work is nearly finished - the building on the right is just in its final stages.

A peaceful Saturday. I did a fairly vigorous online class first thing, and then we walked down to the market where we saw meles getting the pies in for DaveH. Like her, we tested out the new Aldi on the way home, but only for the purposes of buying a couple of bottles of wine. I watched a bit of rugby on my phone during the afternoon, but really did remarkably little (apart from cleaning the oven....). Mr A made an apple and blackberry pie and then - after some prompting from me - added an egg custard to the roster. He then made some brill (from the market) for dinner, followed by said pie and custard. All delicious.
