Ice

Did our usual walk down to the lake today. No more rain so the high water levels are going down, leaving stranded layers of ice. There's no snow in the picture because everything here was underwater when the snow fell.
The ice is looking stronger, and the local ice-skating group have been out on some lakes, but there will have to be a few days below zero before I set out onto this lake.
An extra photo, now on my flickr, shows a fairly substantial birch tree, near the outlet from the lake. It may be the middle of winter but the beavers still seem active. A similar tree just a few meters away is now lying across the stream, and it was still upright a week ago!
