Sprouting fat Ball.

Having seen that Gilcrux had seeds sprouting in a teasel head I thought I had better record my own strange sproutings.

Earlier in the year (sorry last year) one of my presents was a double House Martin nest box (thank you girls).  Being observant and canny it was noticed that adding this enormous fat ball to the order was cheaper than paying carriage.  Orders over a certain amount were carriage free.

The ball is formed by taking a Monterey Pine cone and filling it with fat and bird food.   The cones are large up to 15 cm (6") long.  Clearly my birds are too well fed as the fat ball is going down slowly, couple that with the mild weather and the grain has started to sprout.
