One of more than 50

When I got down the stairs to the Southend of Snells Beach, the first birds I saw out on the mudflats were Kuaka; the bar-tailed godwits. Spread out over a fairly wide area, I counted more than 50, some looking far too small to have flown here from the Arctic circle. They have quite a task ahead of them to build themselves up for the return journey.

Being here for the last two days has been restful. We have been thinking about the task ahead of us. In less than two weeks we need to be out of the apartment, having retained enough of what is necessary for me to continue at work, S to keep going with her writing and submissions, and somehow finding a new home in the city.
