Icy splendour!

Wednesday
The forecast called for sunny skies, so we decided to make the most of it and head over to Hocking Hills for the day, thinking that with the cold weather we’ve been having recently the streams and waterfalls would be beginning to freeze, and we weren’t disappointed! At the same time however, we haven’t had much precipitation lately, so hoped that the paths wouldn’t be too icy, and that was also the case, though we did take our spikes along with us just in case. We had a wonderful hike from Old Mans Cave through the gorge to Cedar Falls, then back along the rim trail, for a total of about 8 miles. The winter sun, being low in the sky was illuminating some of the rock cliffs beautifully, and the air was so clear - in the summer the air is humid and it becomes a bit hazy in the gorge. Despite all the ice, the temperature was above freezing and quite pleasant for hiking.
