A Day In The Life

Mourning No More

The inch of fresh snow received overnight has already melted. The scattered patches of grass are visible once again but the rest of the yard remains covered in an icy snow. More light snow is forecasted for this evening and again overnight. It’s been an uneventful January so far • Mourning doves are year around residents here. They do mate for life, but this one was alone soaking in the morning sun. The mournful coo most of us are familiar with is the male’s attempt to attract the female during mating season. It’s truly beautiful and haunting at the same time. They’re known colloquially as turtle or peace doves, and are capable of flying up to 55 mph! • It’s Friday! Enjoy your weekend! Don’t let it fly by too quickly or you’ll be mournful blippers on Monday ;)
