Gently down the stream

Feeding the birds

Expected to wake up to thick snow.  The BBC website was predicting heavy falls from 4am to lunchtime.  Naturally they were wrong, so I'll start again.

Woke up to no snow other than a few tiny flakes blowing in the wind.  It was, however, extremely icy so I decided to go to the reserve with a pocketful of mealworms.  It is so odd when a robin approaches you for food.  I always walk slowly, trying not to miss too much, but often with them you'll just catch a tiny movement from the corner of your eye, like a falling leaf.  And there, about 10cm from your left boot will be a robin looking up at you.  No wonder we love them so much!

However, today it was this little person who really caught me out.  There is one place I always leave food because a robin lives there, plus a couple of greedy blackbirds.  But today it was this great tit who hopped up first.  What a little corker and look at those enormous feet!!

Apart from that today has been peaceful, quiet and, even inside, a little cold.  We do need those new windows badly.

Hope you've had a happy one  xx
