DERELICT SUNDAY

We needed to ensure that our car was in full working order today because Mr. HCB has to go for a Covid test tomorrow, prior to his cataract operation on Thursday, so we decided after a good service at Zoom Church, to go for a short drive.  It was no more than five miles from home, so was within the Government guidelines.

We have been to this barn before, which is just outside the village of Badbury, and all around there are signs of dereliction.  Mr. HCB stayed by the car, enjoying the fresh air while I wandered around looking at all the rubbish dereliction around.

There were old fridges, vacuum cleaners, mattresses, trailers and electrical bits and pieces together with lots of old farm machinery.  Neither of us is certain what this is - it could be an old slurry tanker, but it certainly hasn’t been anywhere for sometime and by the looks of all the débris on the front of it, won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

Just across the narrow road was a carpet of primroses underneath the trees that are beginning to show tiny buds.  What a welcome sight that was and really did speak to us of Spring.

Although the sky was blue and the sun was shining, there was a bitterly cold wind, so we didn’t stay out for long.  However, I had put a couple of pieces of my home-made apple and prune cake into the car, so we sat at the bottom of Liddington Hill, overlooking Swindon, and spent a pleasant quarter of an hour just taking in the beautiful landscape, bearing in mind that were haven’t been out like this for many weeks.

It was great to be out though and of course, Mr. HCB won’t be able to drive for a couple of weeks, and maybe more after his cataract operation, so not sure when we will be going out again.

You may remember I had a Tax Demand from HM Tax Office at the end of last week - it’s a good job that I file everything well because I found that I had actually paid this on 31st January 2018 and the cheque was presented, so a stern letter/email will be winging its way to them this coming week.

“You can't change who you are,
but you can change what you have in your head,
you can refresh what you're thinking about,
you can put some fresh air in your brain.”

P.S.  Thank you so much for all your kind comments, stars and hearts for our Wedding Anniversary, which put Snowy and JHTed quite near the top of the Popular Page - so they were very grateful.  We had a great day, enjoying our memories, laughing at photographs and then we had a lovely meal with a bottle of champagne in the evening and of course, I had to open one of my Christmas boxes of chocolates!  We also had a beautiful bouquet of flowers and another bottle of champagne from our older son and daughter-in-law and their family - see extra.
