Boiled Olive

I didn't ask so not quite sure why all of these eggs were being hard-boiled but know they won't be used for human consumption. It's rather nice that we have a range of colours, although the olive coloured one is from the only chicken we have ever had to lay such a colour - it's one of the "green-layer" hens but probably with some Mediterranean DNA!

Reason for such surplus is normally when we discover a "wild" nest somewhere in the stables amongst the horse hay bales which the girls have been using without our knowledge. The other reason is simply very dirty eggs which happen from time to time when we also happen to have a glut. One should never wash eggs if not using them straight away as it destroys the protective film they have. Throughout all the lockdowns our main "customer", a kindergarten in Munich, has remained open and been taking the eggs weekly. We couldn't ever give them washed eggs.

I guess at this time of year we should be "blowing" them to use as Easter decorations and don't need to bother colouring them.
