Common Enchantments

Chickadee

One thing that Jerry did to keep himself a little busy while he was mending from his knee replacement was to work on some bird houses for our yard.  This one is a piece of hollow tree limb that he covered with a piece of wood on the ends.

We were so happy to see the chickadee going inside!    I think maybe the bluebird was looking at it but lost its chance.    I believe the babies must have just hatched as there was not as much traffic in and out as it has been the last two days.    They are the fastest little birds to try to get photos!

In the extras are a couple more shots of the birds.

Today, the man decided he was going to take down the old redtips (photinia) at the side of the back porch.  These plants were like trees and protected the covered part of the porch from wind and gave a little bit of privacy if I wanted to sit on the back porch in my jammies.   One of the trees died and was easy to pull out with a chain attached to his truck.  The other tree took a chain saw, an axe, the pick and the shovel and then could be pulled out with the chain.   He finally got it out and then said it was my job to do clean up.   So he went inside to put ice on his knee.  Which is okay with me!    I am going to plant two butterfly bushes for the butterflies and bees.

It looks really strange there as those plants have been at that spot since we built this house 40 years ago.     It was time to get them out.

In the front yard, the azaleas are starting to bloom!   You can be sure they will be here sometime next week.
