Bridge Protector

Soft iron allowed the ropes used to pull canal boats in the pre engine days to cut grooves in these protectors, that can often be found on the corners of bridge parapets. 

I'd popped to the office to get some new LFT kits and took an alternative route back, after coming across three sets of temporary lights on the way there.  So typical that the Highways Department are extremely active in March.  Annual budgets end today so any money left is being spent quickly.  A pity they couldn't see fit to fill some of the potholes that plague the local road network.  at least it gave me the opportunity to stop by the canal for a quick photo opportunity.
