A Day In The Life

For an overcast breezy day it warmed up nicely into the 50s by noon; it’s cooling off now as a rainstorm is moving in for tonight through tomorrow • Before grocery shopping for fresh fruit and veggies we stopped by the Boat Landing at the Kennebec River to see if any osprey or cormorants had returned from their winter vacation. The answer is no, but we were entertained by a swarm of small acrobatic birds. They skimmed the water, cut quickly up, then changed direction going this way or that way, constantly darting about. They were fascinating and it took awhile to figure out they were feeding on insects. The birds were so quick we couldn’t tell what color they were or what they even looked like, impossible to follow them with either the camera or binoculars. Admittedly it isn’t a clear photo but it was good enough to identify them as Tree Swallows. We were surprised they are an iridescent blue! They likely just arrived and were very hungry from their long trip from the southern US • MrsP spotted an eagle on the other side of the river, and I spotted MrsP watching seagulls • I hope you all got a chance to do something you enjoy today, too! Stay Well!
