Building Material

Well the wool is building material for the birds. The temp stayed below 5C today and there was a strong and very cold northerly wind, so a day for staying in despite the sunshine. I popped out briefly to water some plants I bought last week that I've put in the greenhouse until this cold spell passes - it was really bitter. I also put a few bits of wool on the hedge to help the blue tit building a nest in the bird box. I added a photo from my tv of the nest building - not a great photo for a blip, but great to watch.

Day 385 / Day 90 of Lockdown 3 / Day 29 of Step 1 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
UK deaths up 26 to 126,862 (revised basis), with 2,762 new cases, 3,536 patients in hospital, 517 on ventilation and 273 new admissions. 31.6m have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 5.4m have had their second dose. It's a year exactly since the Queen addressed the Nation and Boris was admitted to hospital - those were scary days. The PM confirms that the Roadmap for England is on track as all tests set have been met. So on 12th Apr hairdressers, shops, pub beer gardens and restaurants serving outside, gyms, zoos, community centres etc will re-open. Overnight stays will be allowed in Eng and self contained accommodation will re-open for members of the same household or support bubble. After being much more cautious, Scotland re-opens garden centres and bizarrely also non-essential retail and hairdressers (a big step) - nothing to do with an election in May of course! Boris says that Covid-status certification will 'likely become a feature of our lives' as a temporary measure. A traffic light system will be used for foreign travel - a Global Travel Taskforce will report later this week. Everyone in England is to be offered from Friday free, rapid twice-weekly Covid-19 lateral flow tests. They'll be available for home ordering, workplace testing, community testing and 'pharmacy collect' (I can't see this taking off to be honest).
