Bridge 208 - Trent & Mersey

The canal bridges are back! This is Willow Green Bridge on the Trent & Mersey near Bartington. Not only is it the first canal bridge blip since last year but it is also the first time we have done the walk from Bartington along the canal and then down to the River Weaver at Dutton Locks. This was a popular walk for us last year so it was great to familiarise ourselves with it again. As a bonus we spotted our first swallow of the year and three gadwall. It has been a bit cloudy today but the sun came out at the right time for this photo.

Lands End to John O'Groats 1000 Mile Virtual Challenge Update

Day 59 -  Dorset. 4 miles walked. 223.5 miles completed.

One of the most picturesque days so far. I was fortunate that, as it was a virtual visit, there was no-one around. This will be my last view of the sea for some time as I reached Durdle Door and then Lulworth Cove. I even had time for a virtual look around the visitor's centre.

Significantly, after 220 miles, I am finally heading north after walking east along the south coast for two months. Today's walk finished in West Lulworth right outside the guest house we stayed in when we walked the SWCP in real life all those years ago. To celebrate I went in the Castle Inn for a virtual pint of Butcombe Original and Rare Breed Pale Ale to go with my beer-battered fish and chips and minted peas.
