Little Chapel in the Hills

We had perfect weather for our last day in WV. I took a few more photos of the spring flowers, we packed, did some last minute cleaning, my sister planted a few flower seeds and her second Red Hot Poker (in hopes of luring orioles this summer). I even slipped in some reading time. The day flew by. We visited “the neighbors” and grabbed a shot of this church that is in disrepair. Edna gave me a few facts about it. It’s named Number Two Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church and has been there over 85 years. They had a traveling minister who held services throughout the ridges. She thinks that stopped in the 1940’s. The community has teamed together physically and financially to keep it usable until recently. They had a new roof put on a few years back but the contractor took his money and disappeared before finishing the job. That set back may have been the last time folks want to invest in its upkeep. They still use the cemetery though. It makes me very sad to see any building be deserted but especially a house of worship. We packed the vehicles this evening since we are expecting a downpour in the morning. We had just the right leftovers to make a hearty pot of ham, potato and corn chowder for dinner. There is enough left for tomorrow’s dinner as well. Always hold back enough payment so your contractor lives up to his end of the bargain and let him know from the beginning, his final product will be inspected. Thanks for the visit.
