Mr. and Mrs. Marmot

After a long time
in hibernation, these two
sun themselves on rocks

Our yellow-bellied marmots are members of the rodent family and live only in western North America. They hibernate for seven to eight months of the year. These have just showed up and are enjoying the warm days. They live in colonies. These must be housed in the rocky riprap along the river's edge. Today, I found these two off the  MacArthur Island Rivers Trail.

I walked the short distance beside the Thompson River. It was lovely to see so much green around the city. Across the river, Rabbit Island appears very green.  The Canada geese have remained, but the ducks seemed to have moved on. Dandelions are in full bloom.

I left a quilted heart near my siting of the marmots.
