May Day Orange Tip

I took Ollie dog for an early walk as I had an appointment in Ongar. I didn't bother to wash my face in the morning dew but I saw one of our buzzards perched in an oak tree by the lake and heard the lesser whitethroat for the first time this year. I'm glad it has returned.

A female orange tip was motionless on a garlic mustard flower, which is one of its favourite host plants. This is one of the first Jack-by-the-hedge blooms I have seen. Everything is running a bit late this season. I've added an image to extras of the butterfly with my photo assistant. :)
